High School Pathways Hub
Introducing Biotech to High School Classrooms
We help high school teachers launch and sustain workforce-focused biotech programs by providing professional development, curriculum resources, and guidance on skill-based certifications students can earn. We also support pathway-building from high schools to partner community college programs to strengthen recruitment.
Who we are
Our Hub team includes members from Austin Community College (ACC) and the nonprofit BABEC.
At ACC, we support the Texas Biotechnology Pathway, which has guided students from high school to college and industry for over 20 years. Built on industry-validated standards, updated curriculum, faculty support, diverse recruitment, and competency testing, this pathway can be replicated in your school, district, or state.
At BABEC, we provide lab and lesson resources to introduce biotechnology in science classes like biology, living earth, and chemistry. We run one of the nation’s largest kit-sharing networks and offer training to help teachers implement hands-on biotech labs.
What we can do for you
- Provide professional development and mentoring for teachers.
- Share strategies to bridge biotech pathways from high school to community college.
- Provide skill-standards-based curriculum for dual credit biotechnology programs.
- Share curriculum resources that introduce biotech to general high school science classes.
