Digital World Biology has been involved in biotech and bioinformatics education for several years. Dr. Sandra Porter designed curriculum in both areas and served as director of the Seattle Central Community College biotechnology program for ten years. Dr. Todd Smith founded Geospiza, a genomics analysis company later purchased by PerkinElmer.

Biotech-Careers.org was launched in 2012 with funding from the Bio-Link National ATE Center for Biotechnology Education (DUE 0903317). Additional funding has come from DUE 1400721, 1764225, and 1800909.

Dr. Smith mentors biotechnology start-up companies through the University of Washington’s CoMotion program and mentors students through Nucleate, a student-led organization that promotes biotech entrepreneurship. He also teaches business models in the InnovATEBIO Biotech Leadership Institute (BLI).
